Roma

The music started playing before the parade started. Each group went one after another dancing and cheering along to the bands. Every group had different colored outfits with the beads sewn onto them. The skirts flew as they spun around and the beads bounced against the fabric.

The excitement was building but so was the storm. At 12:00 the parade started where they left the square and headed down the cobblestone streets for Old Town Square, here they would preform dances for everyone to enjoy. As we headed down the street, the sky got darker and darker. You could see the lightening in the distance but could not yet hear the thunder. I rushed to get ahead of the parade in order to get to Old Town Square first to get some photos before the storm hit.

Just as everyone arrived so did the rain. At first it was just sprinkling but soon it was pouring. Everyone took refuge under the awnings of stores and restaurants. The streets became slippery. Everyone waited to see where they should go. Would the parade continue or would the storm stop the fun.

Unfortunately the storm canceled the parade, but left me wondering more about Roma culture and their place in Czech society.
