Views from the Tram

Updated: Jun 9, 2018

At 6:30 in the morning on a Saturday, the trams come less frequently, something we did not think about when leaving the Charles bridge. The air was cold, but the sun was slowly warming everything up. Prague is peaceful in the morning as everything is quiet. Places normally filled with people were suddenly isolated. There was no fighting over seats in the tram or maneuvering through tourists on the street. The tranquility was worth the 4:30 wake up.

In Texas, everyone drives. Sometimes we drive only a few blocks instead of walking. People here would think we are crazy. We are always on our own time frame, no one wants to wait for a bus. It’s a catch 22, because no one uses the public transportation, less money is being used to improve it. And because it is not the most functional system, few people take advantage of it. In Prague the majority of people use public transportation, just like Austin, the city struggles with traffic and parking specifically near the city center. Even though people don’t seem to chat too much while on the metro, it becomes a sort of community. People stare out the window as the metro goes by; a perfect place to watch people.
