Flea Market

Kolbenova Flea Market put Target to shame. Washing machines, tires, jewelry, antiques, clothes piled as far as you can see. Anything you could possibly need was there. Vendors sat inside their cars or vans with their accumulation of pieces placed out in front of them. Some had more sophisticated set-ups where customers could walk under a shaded roof with everything hung up, while others laid everything on a blanket on the ground. The space was essentially a parking lot that on the weekend turned into a treasure hunt for junk. The market had a sense of mystery to it as I wondered where all these items came from and how much of it actually got sold. As cool as some of the furniture was, how would people get it from there into their apartments within the city?

There was an interesting assortment of goods. Some of it was everyday household items like groceries and toiletries. These items, locals seemed to purchase, as it was much cheaper than buying them at the store. Then there were purses, shoes and clothing, varying in sizes and material waiting for someone to sift through to find the perfect outfit. Antiques ranged from furniture to tea cups. Sometimes the vendors would know the age, sometimes the customer would have to figure it out themselves. Besides the millions of items for sale, there were food stands along the edge of the market. After finding the perfect souvenir, people ate sausage and drank beer despite the fact that it was only 10am.
